Giving credit where credit is due
Environmental Products and Services of Vermont, Inc. is a multi-functional service organization that provides identification, monitoring, correction, and prevention of environmental problems. All technical personnel and operations staff are qualified, 40-Hour OSHA-trained professionals, including geo-science engineers and specialists, who supply advice and technical expertise in areas such as well drilling, groundwater monitoring and remediation, soil vapor analysis, and soil venting techniques.
Following the destructive power of Hurricane Katrina, EPS of VT (including Don Melander, Anthony Melfi and Christopher Parzych who are equal owners of the company) was hired by a large retail store chain to remove hazardous materials like drain cleaners, herbicides, and pesticides and many other common household items by hazmat teams to prevent ground or water contamination, as well as to clean-out freezers and coolers that were full of rotten food, preparing them for the restock of fresh food for distribution to the community. Two hazmat teams, containing 2-4 members, other employees and subcontractors were sent to complete the mission. A total of 85 crew members were under EPS of Vermont’s direction.
EPS of Vermont worked with Dr. Tim Fitzgerald (EPS of VT’s company’s occupational physician) and Nancy Fitzgerald (Office Manager of Champlain Valley Urgent Care, a locally-owned and operated Urgent Care and Occupational Health Facility) who arranged for Dr. Joanna Weinstock and Medical Assistant, Becky Palmer to travel to the storm-ravaged area immediately in order to give vaccinations to the EPS of VT crew members.
The company owners wished to the get word out about this massive community effort. PostScript provided public relations services which resulted in a feature story on the WCAX evening newscast.
